Terms

Terms of service

These terms apply to anyone who uses SafeToPay, whether the free check, an account or a paid report. In short: reports are factual summaries of public records for your own use; they are not advice or a guarantee; you decide whether and how to pay a business.

Version 1.0 · Effective 6 September 2026

1. Who we are

SafeToPay is a trading name of Continox Ltd, company no. 09967278, registered in England and Wales, registered office as shown in the footer. Contact: hello@safetopay.co.uk.

2. What the service is

SafeToPay collects public information about a UK business from named sources (Companies House, HMRC, Nominet and RDAP, the Internet Archive, Google, and the business’s own website), compares the business’s statements about itself with those sources, and presents the result as a report with a verdict under published rules. The methodology is at /methodology/.

What it is not

  • Not legal, financial or professional advice, and not a substitute for it.
  • Not a credit reference, a rating agency opinion or a guarantee that a business will perform.
  • Not an allegation of dishonesty. A red verdict means that on the public record we would not pay a deposit yet; it does not mean the business is a scam.

3. Accuracy and sources

We reproduce public records as they stand at the time of the check and we say when a source was unavailable. Records can be wrong, late or out of date at source; websites change; a company can change the day after a check. We do not warrant that a report is complete or current. Verify independently before contracting.

4. Free checks, accounts and limits

Free checks are limited per person per day (currently 3 without an account, 10 with a free account). We may change limits, refuse or throttle automated use, and suspend accounts used to scrape, resell or misuse the service.

5. Paid reports

  • Prices are shown before you pay and include VAT where applicable. A single full report is £14.99; packs and the unlimited plan are priced on the pricing page.
  • A full report is delivered immediately on payment. Because it is digital content delivered at once, you agree that the 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 ends when the report is unlocked.
  • If we could not complete a check because our sources were unavailable, the report is marked incomplete and you are not charged for it; if you were charged, we refund.
  • Packs are valid for 12 months; the unlimited plan for 90 days from purchase. Unused reports are not refunded.
  • Admin-granted credits are discretionary and have no cash value.

6. Using reports

Reports are for your personal use in deciding whether and how to pay a business. You may share a report link with someone helping you decide. You may not republish reports, use them to harass or defame anyone, present them as our opinion of a business’s honesty, or use the service to build a competing dataset.

7. Businesses that appear in reports

Any business may request a correction of a fact it believes is wrong, free of charge, at /business/correction/. We correct within 48 hours where the public record supports the correction. Verdicts follow the published rules and change only when the underlying facts change. Businesses cannot pay to alter a report. The verified badge is free and may be withdrawn if the record changes.

8. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise: we are not liable for losses arising from your decision to contract with or pay a business, for losses caused by errors in public records at source, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to you for any paid report is limited to the price you paid for it. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

9. Changes and law

We may update these terms; the version and effective date are shown at the top. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your home courts.
