For businesses
Request a correction
If a SafeToPay report states a fact about your business wrongly, tell us and we correct it within 48 hours — free, for any business, no account needed. If the facts are right but there is context we should show, we add your statement to the report as a visible “Business response”. What we never do, for anyone, is change a correct fact or a verdict.
How to send a correction
Email corrections@safetopay.co.uk — ideally from an address on your company’s domain, which also verifies you for the free badge. Include three things:
- The report link (the address of the report page, e.g. …/check/ab12cd34).
- The exact line that is wrong — quote it or screenshot it.
- The evidence: the document or public record showing the correct fact — a Companies House filing, a scheme registration number, a page on your website we misread, an invoice header.
We acknowledge the same working day where we can, and resolve within 48 hours. If we need longer (rarely — usually when a source register is down), we say so and say when.
What we correct, what we contextualise, what stays
| Situation | What happens | Example |
|---|---|---|
| We made an error — misread your website, matched the wrong company, misquoted a claim | Corrected in the report, and the verdict recalculated under the published rules | Report matched “AK Fitting Services Ltd” but your invoice shows a different company number |
| The register is out of date at source | We point you to the filing that fixes it; the report refreshes on the next check after Companies House updates | You moved premises but the registered office hasn’t been updated yet |
| The facts are right but incomplete | Your statement is added to the report, visibly, as “Business response”, next to the section it concerns | Net liabilities in the accounts are a director’s loan; the domain changed hands because you bought the business |
| The facts are right and you want them changed | We don’t do that, for any business, at any price — that policy is what makes a good report worth having | “Remove the previous company name” / “make us green” |
How a Business response looks
Your statement appears in the report under the section it concerns, marked as coming from the business, with the date. We publish it as you wrote it, subject to three limits: it must relate to the facts in the report, must not contain personal data of third parties, and must not be misleading on its face (e.g. contradicting the register without evidence). We may shorten statements over 150 words. You can update or withdraw it at any time from the same email address.
About verdicts
Verdicts are calculated from the underlying facts under the rules published in the methodology. They change when the facts change: file the overdue accounts, add the company number to your website, register with the scheme you display — and the next check reflects it. Many ambers are one Companies House filing away from green; the 10-minute checklist covers the usual fixes.
If you disagree with our decision
Reply to the correction email asking for a review — someone not involved in the first decision answers within ten working days. Still not satisfied? The complaints procedure applies, and for personal data (for example, how a director is shown) you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office. If you believe a report is defamatory, write to us marked “Legal” and we respond formally.
Frequently asked questions
Who can request a correction?
Anyone at the business — owner, director, or staff. Requests from the company’s own email domain are actioned fastest; from generic mailboxes we may ask one verification question.
Does it cost anything?
No. Corrections, business responses and the badge are free for every business, always. We take no money from businesses.
Can you take the report down?
We remove reports that are wrong in a way we cannot fix — a wrong company match we cannot resolve, for example. We do not remove accurate reports on request; the report states public information any customer could find themselves.
The report shows my old dissolved company. Why?
Because it is on the public register and relevant to who customers are paying now. If the connection we drew is wrong (different person, same name), send evidence and we correct it within 48 hours.
How fast does a fixed filing show in the report?
Companies House usually shows new filings within a day or two; the report updates the next time anyone runs a check on your website, or immediately if you email us after filing and we re-run it.
