For businesses

Your customers are checking you. Make the record work for you.

Before paying a deposit, your customers increasingly look up the company behind your website: Companies House, reviews, domain history. A SafeToPay report shows them your real record — and if it is good, that is the cheapest selling tool you will ever have. The verified badge is free, corrections are free, and no business can pay us to change anything. That last part is what makes the badge worth showing.

What a customer sees when they check you

A report puts your public record next to what your website says: your legal name and company number, years on the register, filed accounts, directors, reviews, domain history — and whether any claim on your site disagrees with the register. Facts come from named sources; the rules for the verdict are published in the methodology. Nothing in a report is an opinion about your work.

For an established firm this is an advertisement written by the government: two decades on the register, accounts filed on time, reviews going back years. It is everything a cloned website or a fly-by-night competitor cannot show — which is precisely why customers look.

The verified badge — free

The badge is a small mark for your website: “Record verified by SafeToPay”, your legal name and company number, linking to your live report. Customers stop needing to take your word for “established 2004” — the register says it for you.

How it works. The image is served from our system and the link goes to your report, so it is always current and cannot be faked: a copied badge on someone else’s site links to a report that names you, not them. We can withdraw a badge if the record changes seriously — that is what keeps it meaningful.

Choose a style and size

One badge, two styles (light and dark) and a compact pill for tight footers. The SVG scales cleanly — set any width in the snippet and the badge stays sharp.

Get the badge in three steps

  1. Run a free check on your own website at app.safetopay.co.uk — no account needed.
  2. Email us the report link from an address on your company’s domain (e.g. office@yourcompany.co.uk) to hello@safetopay.co.uk with the subject “Badge request”. The domain match is the verification.
  3. Paste the snippet we send back — one image and one link, works on any website builder. Nothing to maintain.

There is no charge, no subscription and no catch. The badge exists because genuine firms displaying real records is good for everyone who isn’t a genuine firm’s competitor at 2 a.m. with a copied website.

If something in a report is wrong

Tell us and we fix it fast — the rules are simple and public:

SituationWhat we doHow fast
We misread your website or a source (wrong number, wrong match, wrong quote)Correct the reportWithin 48 hours
A fact is correctly copied from Companies House but out of date at sourceWe point you to the filing to update; the report refreshes on the next check—
The facts are right but there is context (e.g. net liabilities explained by a director’s loan)We add your statement to the report, visibly, as “Business response”Within 48 hours
You want a fact, a date or the verdict changed without the record changingWe don’t do that — for anyone, at any price—

Start here: request a correction. What we hold and where it comes from: your company’s data.

Pass the check before anyone runs it: the 10-minute list

Most amber points we see are not dishonesty — they are housekeeping. Each of these is quick and visibly improves what customers find:

  1. Put your registered name and company number on your website (footer is fine). It is required by the Companies Act 2006 s.82 — and its absence is the most common “point to check” in our reports.
  2. File on time. Overdue accounts are one of the few things that turn a report red on their own.
  3. Match your SIC code to your story. If your site says “our own workshop”, add the manufacturing SIC code at the next confirmation statement — ten minutes online.
  4. Show a landline and a full postal address. Mobile-and-Gmail-only is the classic pattern of the sites you don’t want to resemble.
  5. Claim your Google Business profile and make sure it links to your current domain — it is how we and your customers connect brand to company.
  6. Offer a card payment link for deposits (Stripe, SumUp, Square). Customers who know about Section 75 — and after our guides, more of them do — choose the firm that lets them use it.
  7. Keep the old domain redirecting after any rebrand, so your history stays yours.

Frequently asked questions

Can we pay to improve our verdict or remove a report?

No. Verdicts follow published rules and change only when the record changes. We take no money from businesses — the badge, corrections and business responses are all free. That policy is what makes a good report worth showing.

Our report is amber. Should we still get the badge?

Often yes. Amber means “a few points to check”, and the report lists them; a business response answering them looks better than silence. Fix the underlying points (SIC code, company number on the site, filings) and the next check reflects it.

Who ran a check on us?

We don’t share that — checks are private to the person who runs them, just as you would expect your own searches to be.

We’re a sole trader. Can we have a badge?

Not yet. The badge states what the company register verifies, and sole traders aren’t on it. It is on our roadmap once we can verify against VAT and trade-scheme registers reliably.

How do you make money, if not from businesses?

Consumers pay for full reports (£14.99, or packs). That is the whole model: our only customer is the person about to pay you, which is why they trust what the badge links to.
